M's Bounce Back

April 14, 2001

First off, I should start by saying that I missed most of this game too because it was my mom's birthday and we were out celebrating all day at the Titanic Exhibit thing at the Seattle Science Center. It was pretty creepy but definitely worth going to see although I have to say that the gift shop and the things you can buy there are a little disturbing if you ask me but I'll get to that later.

So going from the game log, it looks like nothing at all interesting happened in the first four innings and I know that makes for a boring review, but I was at Red Robin by that time halfway through dinner and about all I can add to the goings-on is that the table next to us ordered some unidentified-flaming-sautéed-stinky something or another that reeked out the entire restaurant and Freddy Garcia was finally finding his old form and was sitting down the Angels no problem.

Fifth inning, in the car with the radio on. Bret Boone & Stan Javier both make an out. And then something wonderful happened. Carlos Guillen walked. Dan Wilson got an infield hit. David Bell singled, Carlos scored. Ichiro singled. Dan scored. Al Martin made an out. Freddy continues with his stellar performance and we leave the inning leading 2-0.

Sixth inning and we get nothing more accomplished and Anaheim manages to snag a run back, but I'm not going to get into how that happened because it just doesn't interest me a whole lot although I will mention that Troy Glaus was extremely irritating this series and his sacrifice fly this inning only further solidified my opinion.

Seventh inning. I arrive home. We are into Anaheim's bullpen, so now pitching for their starter, Ismael Valdes, is Elvis Presley NO WAIT it's Al "Sideburns" Levine who racked up two K's and got Ichiro to ground out, making the whole thing look rather easy, I'm sorry to say. But Freddy has no trouble shutting Anaheim down, and we move on to the 8th, still 2-1 M's.

Al Levine strikes out the side. I think they were distracted by his sideburns, which I have to admit were pretty cool. I get the song "Jailhouse Rock" stuck in my head for some reason. Freddy gets the first two outs and then Jeff Nelson relieves him for the third, and we go to the ninth, still 2-1.

Ninth inning. Keep in mind my whole family is in my living room still celebrating my mom's birthday. My three year old nephew is playing with one of the new toys he got from the Titanic gift shop. I don't even know what you call it, but it's this plastic squishy thing filled with blue sparkly liquid and it has a little Titanic boat, life preserver, ice berg and blue pebble floating around in it and we decided that it must be the "heart of the ocean" or whatever from that traumatizing movie a couple of years ago but not before I go, "what's this blue thing, a body?" which makes us laugh hysterically for a full five minutes although it really, really was not in the least little bit funny and I'm kind of appalled at myself but not nearly as appalled as I am over the people that make such toys to begin with and anyway, Gipson got caught stealing and we do nothing in the ninth, and then Nelson struck out Glaus which made me VERY HAPPY and Arthur "Artie to Laura" Rhodes got Garret Anderson out which also made me VERY HAPPY and the Kazu came in and got the final out after walking a guy, and picked up another save and it is when I see that Kazu "I Just Picked Up Another Save" Sasaki grin of his that I know all is right with the world yet again as the M's win it, 2-1.
