The Mariners have been playing so crappy, that I unofficially went on strike again and wasn't going to update the site until they got on a winning streak and gave me something good to write about.
Well, today they gave me something bad to write about.
I'm sure most of you have heard they cut Bret Boone - they didn't trade him, they didn't send him down, they CUT HIM and are eating his salary. You've probably seen the interviews where he's bawling and perhaps a touch hysterical, laughing and crying at the same time.
He deserved better than this. For what he's meant and what he's done for this organization, they could've let him finish out the year - it's not like we're going anywhere anyway, and it's not like we aren't still paying for him, and it's not like he doesn't still have something to contribute.
I considered it unforgivable when they dumped John Olerud last year... and their treatment of Bret has absolutely done me in. I'm done with this site, as with Jay and Edgar retired, Lou gone, Dan hurt and the treatment of the players still with us, I have no interest in the M's at this point. I might be back next year, but I'm so disgusted with Mariners' management at this point, I absolutely can't bear to watch the games let alone re-live them in a recap. Yeah, it's a business I know. But you can still conduct yourself with class, and M's management failed in this aspect.
Good luck to Bret in his future endeavors. I will miss him always.
