So I'm already in a really good mood going into this game because Jay Buhner is getting his first start of the year (as the DH, giving Edgar a breather) and it has been a very long time in coming and anyway, we're down in order and Baltimore wastes Chris Richard's 2 out single, so we're quickly to the second with no score and we end up down in order although Jay put a pretty sweet swing on one and I thought he'd knocked it out but I'm just a tad hyper about him playing, so then Baltimore is down in order as well.
Third inning and the pitching duel between Joel Pineiro and Rick Bauer continues as we're down 1-2-3 and then things got a little exciting as Brook Fordyce is hit with a pitch to lead things off for the Orioles and then Jerry Hairston singled but Joel works his way right out of it and we head to the fourth with no score and Ichiro reaches on an infield single and 2 outs later, Mike Cameron reached on an infield single but that was as exciting as it got and then Jeff Conine singled in the bottom half and an out later he was at second on a wild pitch and a fly out later, Brady "Super Buff" Anderson singled and Conine tried to score and Ichiro GUNNED HIS BUTT DOWN AT HOME and I laughed triumphantly as if I'd had anything to do with it but still.
So fifth inning and I again thought Jay had hit a homerun but he flew out instead and we end up down in order and so was Baltimore, so let us just move along to the sixth where both sides are down 1-2-3 yet again, and finally, in the seventh inning, Bret "I'm Goin Yard!" Boone WENT YARD to put us up 1-0 and then Cammie walked and a fielder's choice later and Jay walked and then Jorge Julio relieved Bauer and the 1 run is all we've managed, and then Baltimore sits down in order as well they should.
So eighth inning and Dan Wilson leads off with a double but is out on a fielder's choice by Ichiro, who then stole second and then Mac walked and they pulled off a double steal which made me laugh triumphantly again but that is unfortunately as far as we can get them and we head to the bottom half where Jose Paniagua relieved Pineiro and got the first 2 guys and then Arthur Rhodes came in to get the last out which he promptly did and we head to the ninth still leading 1-0 and Willis Roberts relieved Julio and retired us in order and then Kazuhiro Sasaki relieved Artie, gave up a single to Melvin Mora, who went to second on a wild pitch and a strikeout later and Jeff Conine walked and then Cal Ripken Jr. singled and Mora thought he was going to score on it but Mark McLemore GUNNED HIS BUTT DOWN AT HOME a la Ichiro and I was beside myself impressed and I can't even get over what Mac has done for us this year, I mean talk about versatality and anyway, a fly out later and we have won this game and the series and I am so happy that I'm smiling almost as big as Kazu.
"What was amazing to me was that Mark could play the infield for six innings, go to the outfield and then make the game-saving throw. That says a lot about his versatility." -Dan Wilson
"Great game, tons of fun. We needed a well-pitched game and Joel gave it to us. And what can you say about Ichiro and Mac (McLemore)? How about Mac? He plays seven innings of solid infield, then goes out to left and saves the game." -Bret Boone
