So this magnificent event began with everybody sitting down in order for both sides, so let us move right along to the second inning where Edgar led off with a walk but we can't get anything going and then... Gil Meche... he just... I don't even KNOW what happened to him, but Garrett Anderson led off with a single and then Brad Fullmer doubled and then Scott Spiezio doubled which scored Anderson and then Bengie Molina reached on an infield single which scored Fullmer and then Adam Kennedy grounded into a fielder's choice and Molina was out at second but Spiezio scored and then David Eckstein reached on an infield single and then everybody moved up on a wild pitch and then Darin Erstad hit a sac fly to score Kennedy and then Troy Glaus blessedly fouled out and it is 4-0 Anaheim.
Third inning. Finally. With 1 out, Ben Davis ripped a big nasty double and then Ichiro doubled and then an out later and Bret "I'm Goin Yard!" Boone WENT YARD and it's 4-3 Anaheim which is a hell of a lot better than 4-0 and Edgar ripped a ground rule double but we're all done scoring and then Gil Meche has returned as we know him and retired the side in order.
So fourth inning and everybody's down 1-2-3 again, so let's just keep moving right along to the fifth where we do nothing and then Eckstein leads off with a walk and then Erstad singled and an out later and Tim Salmon brought his ass in from leftfield to ground out, only that scored Eckstein and it's 5-3 Angels as we head to the sixth inning.
Now pay attention because this was excellent: Bret Boone reached on an infield single. Then Edgar singled and Bret was mad he only got to second on it, but he's cute when he's irritated with himself so it's okay. THEN John Olerud ripped a big nasty double which scored Bret and put Gar on third and Ben Weber came in for Jarrod Washburn and walked Mike Cameron and then Randy Winn ripped a big nasty double which scored Gar and John and we take the lead 6-5! And THEN an out later and Ben Davis singled which scored Mike and Randy! 8-5 Seattle!! So then Spiezio led off with a homerun for Anaheim and it's 8-6 as we head to the seventh but that's okay.
So Carlos Guillen led off with a single and then an out later and Edgar "I AM TAKING OVER AS THE ALL TIME MARINER RBI LEADER!" Martinez TOOK OVER AS THE ALL-TIME MARINER RBI LEADER by GOING YARD and it's 10-6 Seattle.
So then that Rodriguez guy relieved Weber and John Olerud singled and then Mike was called out on strikes nevermind that strike 3 was a foot outside and he was mighty unpleased about the call as was I, and we end up leaving John out there and head to the bottom half where Shiggy relieved Gil and with 1 out, Cammie ROBBED Troy Glaus of a hit and it was totally awesome because the ball curved at the last second and Cam had to dive to his right to catch it and anyway it flat rocked and Anaheim ended up wasting Tim Salmon & His Ass Of Another Dimension's single.
Eighth inning, still 10-6 M's, and we're down in order and Anaheim wastes Bengie Molina's 2 out single and Brad Fullmer hurt himself which was pretty scary looking since he had to be carried off the field and I hope he's okay.
So ninth inning and Schoeneweis relieved Rodriguez and with 1 out, Bret singled but that's all we manage, and then Eckstein led off with a single but a strikeout and a double play later and it didn't really matter and we take the series 2-to-1.
"Martinez dealt with losing his stroke to a week off for interleague play in National League parks. 'In the past I felt OK coming off the interleague period,' Martinez said. 'This year everything was wrong, and I was pulling off the ball. But I've felt better recently, and I think it's OK now.' This is music to the Mariners' ears. Over the years, they know if Martinez is OK, they're OK." - Bob Finnigan, sportswriter
