So this game began with seven - count them - seven consecutive hits as Randy Winn singled and then Carlos Guillen singled and then Bret Boone singled which scored Randy and then Edgar singled which scored Carlos and sent Bret to third.

So then Mike Cameron singled which scored Bret and then Greg Colbrunn TRIPLED which scored Edgar and Mike and then Jeff Cirillo singled which scored Greg and an out later and Willie Bloomquist singled but all good things must come to an end and we head to the bottom half leading 6-0 and Freddy Garcia gave up a lead off homerun to Jacque Jones because I think Freddy is determined to give me a breakdown or something before the season is over and an out later, he walked Corey Koskie but then recovered nicely by striking out the next two batters to end the inning.
So top of the second, 6-1 Seattle, and Bret "I Want That 6 Run Lead Back So I'm Goin Yard!" Boone led off by getting our 6 run lead back as he WENT YARD and then an out later and Cammie singled and then Tony Fiore relieved Kenny Rogers because you've got to know when to fold em and then Greg singled but we don't score any more and head off to the bottom half leading 7-1 and Doug Enormouslastname led off with a double and an out later and AJ Pierzynski homered so it is now 7-3 Seattle but Freddy settles down again and gets 2 groundouts to end the inning.

So off we go to the third where we're down in order and then Freddy tries to give me apoplexy by giving up back to back singles to Cristian Guzman and Koskie before getting Matthew LeCroy to strike out, and then he walked Torii Hunter to load the bases and then Doug Enormouslastname hit a sac fly to score Guzman but we come away from it by allowing only 1 run to score so that's something I guess.
Fourth inning, 7-4 Seattle, and with 1 out, Edgar "I'm Goin Yard!" Martinez GOES YARD to make it 8-4 and then Freddy again tries to kill me as Pierzynski leads off with a double, but he retires the rest of the side in order, with 2 strikeouts besides, so I'm breathing normally again.
Fifth inning and we're down in order and Koskie leads off with a single but they don't score, so let's just move along to the sixth where everybody's just swinging at CRAP and meanwhile, while Bret's up, they pan to the dugout where Freddy is PICKING HIS NOSE and then they leave the camera on him for like 20 minutes and we are forced to watch him just blatantly, full out, fingers jammed in both nostrils PICK HIS NOSE!! And so we're down in order and really grossed out, and Freddy stops picking his nose long enough to go out and give up a lead off walk to Dustan Mohr which is erased nicely an out later by a double play.
So seventh inning and Edgar ripped a big nasty double to lead things off and then Cam sacrificed him over to third and then that Rincon guy came in to pitch for Fiore and John Olerud hit for Greg and they intentionally walked Ole because they are a BIG FAT BUNCH OF CHICKENS and then Cirillo hit a sac fly to score Gar and we lead it 9-4 as we head to the bottom half where Jones led off with a base hit and NO WAIT! JOHN OLERUD MADE A DIVING STOP AND ROBBED HIM!!! BOSS!! And then Minnesota ends up down in order, so let's just move along to the eighth inning, where Romero relieved Rincon and retired us 1-2-3 and then Jeff Nelson came in for Freddy, struck out the first two batters, and got Enormouslastname to line a shot towards first which everybody knows will be vacuumed up by Mr. Olerud, and sure enough, it was.
So ninth inning and Eddie Guardado relieved Romero and with 1 out, Edgar singled and won some lady groceries for a year since it was his 4th hit of the game, but that was about as exciting as it got, and then Shiggy relieved Nellie and got two quick outs before giving Lew Ford his first major league homerun, and it was actually kind of funny because there were these guys sitting in the stands with this huge sign proclaiming them the Lew Ford Fan Club and the announcers were all "look, he's got his own fan club already" and then when he hit that homerun, the announcers were all "AND THE LEW FORD FAN CLUB IS GOING CRAZY!" which made me laugh, and anyway, Shiggy recovered nicely to get Jones to ground out, and we win it 9-5 in a nice shoutout to Kenny Rogers' friend Dolly Parton, and for all of you stat freaks: We're 6-0 on this road trip thus far. Boss!
"No, it was not a buzz saw, not at
all. What they are is a very good team, a very consistent team. To
me, a buzz saw is a team that comes in all of a sudden and gets very, very hot.
They didn't do that. They've been playing like this all year. That's the
Mariners. That's what they do. I actually thought we played
reasonably good this weekend. But they just don't make mistakes. They
didn't do anything wrong. They didn't give us anything. No errors. They
walked almost no one. And that's the mark of a good, veteran team. They
came in here for four games and played better in our park than we did.
That first inning, they put the ball in play and they executed offensively.
That's what you have to do when you play here. Were there some bloops and
flops? Sure. But when you're hitting, it's a matter of whatever it takes. No
matter how you want to phrase it, what matters is they got hits. They came in
here and outplayed us four games. That's the Mariners. That's what they
do." - Ron Gardenhire, Minnesota Twins Manager
