So this excellent game began with Brutus and I still sound asleep while Ichiro led off with a single and then Carlos "I'm Goin Yard!" Guillen WENT YARD to put us up 2-0 and 3 groundouts later, we head to the bottom half where with 1 out, Santiago walked and then Bobby Higginson homered to tie the game but Joel Pineiro got the next two guys and off we go to the second, 2-all.
So then Greg "I'm Taking the Lead Back!" Colbrunn TOOK THE LEAD BACK by knocking one out to lead things off and the rest of the inning is not very exciting, so let's just say 3-2 Seattle as we head to the bottom half where Joel fairs very well except for a harmless 1-out walk to Munson.
Third inning and Brutus and I are still sound asleep although he had woken me up earlier that morning wanting to play 'Let's Knock Things Off the Desk' which is a favorite game of his and so I had set him outside my bedroom and shut the door and he had a huge Homer Fussy about it and meowed for like 10 minutes, but he's very smart and figured out the door wasn't latched and managed to get it open, and he came in and went back to sleep like a good boy even though he's really very naughty and Ichiro led off with a single but Carlos hit into a double play and then Bret singled but that was as exciting as it got there in the top of the third, and then Joel retired the Tigers in order.
So fourth inning and Randy Winn reached on an infield single and then 2 outs later, he stole second and then Ben Davis ripped a big nasty double which scored him and we head to the bottom half leading 4-2 where Joel retired the side 1-2-3 again.
Fifth inning! Still sound asleep! With 1 out, Carlos walked! And then Bret "I'M GOING YARD!" Boone WENT YARD and we take the lead 6-2! So then an out later and Randy is hit with a pitch only he doesn't charge the mound like I would have and okay, I would actually probably just fall down and start crying, but anyway, we don't score any more and head to the bottom half where with 2 outs, Infante singled, but that was as exciting as it got for the Tigers.
Sixth inning. New pitcher for the Tigers. With 2 outs, Willie Bloomquist walked but we are unable to get anything going, so moving right along, Dmitri Young singled with 2 outs, and then Carlos Pena singled but Joel recovers and struck out Monroe to end the threat and off we go to the seventh where we're down in order and so is Detroit.
Eighth inning, still not awake. With 2 outs, Jeff Cirillo doubled, but we don't score him and Joel retires the side in order again. Ninth inning! I wake up and stagger out to the living room and flip on the TV set and blink at the game which is pretty much over. That Spurling guy is pitching for the Tigers again. With 1 out, Ichiro reaches on an infield single. Carlos flew out. I yawned. Bret struck out. I rubbed my eyes. Arthur Rhodes came in to finish off the game for Joel. Dmitri Young walked to lead things off, but a double play later and it didn't really matter, and then Monroe flew out to end it and we complete the sweep.
So then I'm watching the highlights of the game and I think it was Dmitri Young that was pissed off after striking out at one point and he took a huge cut at the bat rack in the dugout which was kind of funny and Bret evidently made a really great play at one point that Homer told me about later that day and then I found this quote from yesterday that cracked me up where Bob was talking about how quiet the Mariners are for the most part... "That's just the way the guys are here. We've got a quiet group, but Boonie makes up for everybody."
