So this game began with Joel Pineiro making me a little bit nervous as he started things off by walking Bobby Higginson, and then there's Eugene, or Gene I guess he goes by now, Kingsale who played a bit for us last year and he's with the Tigers now evidently and he sacrificed Bobby over to second and then Carlos Pena walked and then Dmitri Young walked and if I remember correctly, Dmitri, when he left Cincinnati, was one of the guys who bitched a lot about Junior which kind of cracked me up at the time and anyway, the bases are loaded but Palmer, bless his heart, grounded into a double play to end the inning.
So our turn and the announcers have meanwhile been talking about one of the umps that gave Lou Piniella a fit which cracked me up and made me sad at the same time and then with 1 out, Randy Winn tripled and then an out later and Edgar walked and then John Olerud hit what looked like a routine fly ball but Dmitri Young let it drop right in front of him which scored Randy and then Carlos Guillen singled, and Edgar went to third and NO WAIT THEY ARE WAIVING HIM IN AND HERE COMES EDGAR HAULING ASS AT 3.6 MILES AN HOUR AND HE IS SOMEHOW SAFE AND I HAVE COVERED MY EYES IN ANTICIPATION OF HIS SLIDE BECAUSE EDGAR SLIDING ALWAYS TERRIFIES ME BUT ALL IS WELL. And we lead it 2-0 as we head to the second inning.

So 2-0 Seattle and with 1 out, some guy named Infante singled and then an out later and he stole second and then Santiago walked and then Higginson walked but Joel avoids another bases loaded jam by getting Kingsale to ground out and then this was very exciting so pay attention: Willie Bloomquist led off with a double and then Dan Wilson singled and with runners at the corners, Ichiro singled and that scored Willie and then Randy singled and that loaded the bases and then Bret ripped a big nasty double which cleaned them off! 6-0 Seattle as we head to the third!
So with 1 out, Dmitri Young walked, but that was as exciting as it got for Detroit, and then it was our turn again and we are now facing a new pitcher by the name of Ledezma who promptly sat us down in order which wasn't very nice.
Fourth inning and Joel 1-2-3'd Detroit which made me very happy because all of his prior base-on-balls were making me nervous and Randy doubled and Edgar walked, both of which we wasted, so fifth inning and Pena singled with 2 outs but nobody cared because Young struck out looking and wasn't very happy about it, like what a girl and then we're down in order which I wasn't very happy about but I wasn't a big crybaby like Dmitri.
So sixth inning and with 1 out, Munson doubled and then Infante singled and then Julio Mateo relieved Joel and walked Inge and just as I was about to have a small hissy fit, he got Santiago to pop up and Higginson to strike out, so no harm done, and then we are facing another new pitcher, this one by the name of Roney, and he retires the side in order which wasn't at all exciting.
Seventh inning and everybody's down in order so let's just move along to the eighth inning and meanwhile, it's 70's Night at the Safe and there are some pretty screwy looking people walking around in their 70's attire which looked like a lot of fun and 70's clothes always crack me up because having been born in 1976, all of my baby pictures involve some truly horrifying 70's outfits where there's my Mom in her bell bottom pantsuits and there's Homer with his Elvis sideburns and there's Paula in her Dukes of Hazzard t-shirt and there's me with my little 70's dresses and there's just lots of orange and yellow and pea-green and what an AMAZINGLY ugly decade that was, and everybody's down in order again.
So ninth inning, and I'm thinking that if not for my eye still being totally dilated, tonight would've been a good night to take Homer to the game as I think he still longs for the 70's and the much simpler times of 8-tracks instead of CD's, which he calls "tapes" and can't get open with the security seals they put on them, and don't even get him started on DVD players, which he calls "VDV players", and his theory of how DVD's play movies darker than VCR's play them, and I know he misses our old motorhome that my parents bought brand new in 1976 that was white with an orange stripe on the outside, and the inside had shag carpeting and was done in red, orange and brown and played 8-tracks and we would take it to the drive in where my sister and I would watch the movie from the bunk and 1 time Homer lifted our cocker spaniel Toby up there with us and then Toby wouldn't get down and in turned into this huge ordeal but I digress and I guess I'm going to digress some more because I admit to kind of missing the motorhome myself because there were a lot of good times had in it, and one of my earliest memories is of sitting in Homer's lap while he let me STEER THE MOTORHOME down the freeway, because back then kids not only didn't ride in car seats, they didn't wear seatbelts and how amazing is it that any of us are still alive really, I mean we have a picture of my Mom holding my just-a-few-hours-old sister IN THE HOSPITAL in 1968 with Paula in one arm and a LIT CIGARETTE IN HER OTHER HAND and I suppose I should mention that Soriano, who we called up when Kazu went on the DL, relieved Mateo and he walked Inge to lead things off but came back to get the next three batters no problem, and we win our fifth game in a row, 6-0 and I am feeling rather nostalgic.
